For all you who are 'Motor Enthusiast's;
I had a very gracious letter from Patrick McCoole, Cahir/Thurles and Limerick recently and he was able to fill me in on HI-42; As you know from page 93 of 'Our Roots Under The Rock',Grand-Dad's photograph in HI-42.
''Here's a little of its history',
It was dated 1906 and originally owned by Arthur E. Rogers, Oaklands, Clonmel.
He kept it until 1912/13 when it was sold to Edward Barton, Bank of Ireland, Navan, Co. Meath.
My Grandfather, John O'Connor, Jr.,Church Street,Cahir 1892-1948 acquired it in 1915/16
This information comes from 'The Irish Motor Directory' compiled by Henry G. Tempest from about 1905-1916, and a final issue in 1925.
These issues are held in the National library but most are in the British Library in London.The owners names and addresses are only given but the make of the car was never mentioned so Patrick was delighted to know that HI-42 was a Model T Ford.He also told me that HI-42 was issued for a 'motor cycle'.
Many thanks to Patrick for this very informative letter and I wish him every success in his research of the 'Burkes and McCoole's'.
If anyone has any 16mm film of South Tipperary especially Cahir prior to the introduction of Video, please contact me as Patrick is interested in 'Film Making',and I will be delighted to pass on information.
