Trying to find details of Henry and his son Michael O'Connor.

The only evidence we have is a letter from the commonwealth office stating that Michael (my great great grandfather) came from Thomastown, Kilkenny and his father's name was Henry. I have evidence that Michael was indeed in Thomastown in the 1851 Census, but throughout his life he claimed to come from Co Carlow.

In 1851 he was working as a clerk for the East India Company and he then joined the army and went to India where he lived and died in 1900.

He claimed to have "run away from home" but he also claimed to have been 20 years of age when he joined the army.

I am getting absolutely nowhere! Can anyone point me in the right direction?
